Playing with the oil level gives a little softer or stiffer effect after about halve travel due to the volume of air inside that you are compressing.

The PDF manuals I have found online only show the upside down forks and the various threads in forums seem to wander all over the place and go into DRZ territory. Pop the dust boot off with a dull blade knife, then remove the clip ring with a screwdriver.
